Polymath.Ai (“Polymath”, “we”, “us”) is an iOS app that explains homework problems from a photo. This policy describes what data the app handles and why. We have tried to keep it short and specific rather than long and vague.
When you scan a problem, the app crops and compresses the image on your device, then sends it to our servers, where it is processed by artificial intelligence services to read and solve the problem.
These images are processed to answer your question and are not intentionally retained afterwards. They are not used to train AI models, and they are not included in our normal operational logs.
Our servers keep records that contain no homework content — a request identifier, the image dimensions and file size, how long the request took, the estimated processing cost, and whether the request succeeded. We use these to monitor reliability, prevent abuse, and understand what the service costs to run.
The app also generates a random identifier for your installation, which is sent with each request so we can apply fair-use limits. It is not linked to you, your device’s identifiers, or any other app.
Your solution history, including a small thumbnail of each problem, is stored on your iPhone and is never uploaded to us. Deleting the app deletes it. You can also remove individual entries from within the app.
Your remaining question balance is also stored on your device.
We do not collect your name, email address, phone number, contacts, precise location, photo library, or microphone. Polymath has no user accounts and no login.
The app asks for camera permission so you can photograph a problem. You can also choose an existing photo instead; that uses Apple’s photo picker, which gives the app only the single image you select and does not grant access to your photo library. You can change these permissions at any time in the iOS Settings app.
Some parts of the app rely on outside services:
| Service | What it does | Their policy |
|---|---|---|
| Unity Ads (Unity Technologies) | Serves the optional reward ads shown to users who are not subscribed | unity.com/legal |
| Apple | Processes subscription purchases | apple.com/legal/privacy |
We also use a third-party cloud hosting provider to run our servers and to verify that requests come from a genuine copy of the app, and a third-party artificial intelligence provider to read and solve the photo you scan. All of these providers act on our instructions and receive only what is needed for their part of the service. The AI provider does not use your photo to train its models.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioural advertising.
Polymath is free to use, and ads are what cover the cost of running the servers and the AI that solves each problem. New users receive a number of free questions; after those are used, you can choose to watch a short video ad to unlock more. Ads are never forced on you mid-problem, and there are no banner or pop-up ads anywhere in the app. Users who subscribe to Polymath Pro never see ads at all.
Ads are served by Unity Ads. We have configured Unity Ads to show only contextual, non-personalised ads to every user, everywhere in the world. That means ads are not selected based on your past behaviour, no profile is built about you, and your data is not used for cross-app advertising. We have chosen this setting because many of our users are students, including some who may be children.
Because the app does not track you across other apps or websites, it never asks for App Tracking Transparency permission and never receives your device’s advertising identifier. Unity may still use limited technical information, such as approximate country and device type, to deliver and measure ads, and to limit how often you see the same one. Unity’s own privacy policy is linked above.
Polymath Pro is billed through your Apple Account. Apple handles the payment and tells our app only whether a subscription is currently active. We never receive or store your card details. You can manage or cancel a subscription in Settings → your name → Subscriptions.
Polymath is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. Because the app is used for homework and some of our users may be children, ads are non-personalised for everyone, as described above. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
Because Polymath has no accounts and does not keep your homework, we usually hold no personal information tied to you that we could look up, export, or delete on request.
If you are in the EEA, the UK, or a US state with its own privacy law, you may have rights to access, correct, or delete personal information, and to object to certain processing. To exercise them, contact us at the address below. To remove everything the app has stored on your device, delete the app.
Homework images are kept only as long as it takes to answer your question. Technical logs, which contain no homework content, are retained for a limited period for reliability and cost monitoring.
Data travels to our servers over an encrypted connection, and requests are verified as coming from a genuine copy of the app. No system is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
If we change this policy we will update the date at the top. Significant changes will be announced in the app.
